About Us

BUET Alumni Association Canada (BAAC) is a Not-for-Profit organization embracing the interests and activities of Alumni Engineers, Architects, Physical Planners including other professionals graduated from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology BUET, Dhaka, Bangladesh; and connected there of either as Students and or as Faculty Members and Academic Council Members residing in Canada.”

The official name of the organization shall be the “BUET Alumni Association, Canada”, hereinafter referred to as BUET Alumni Association, Canada. The office of BUET Alumni Association, Canada shall be located at Toronto, ON.

The seal of BUET Alumni Association, Canada shall have inscribed thereon the name of the BUET Alumni Association, Canada, and such other device and description as the Executive Committee may determine.

The objectives of BUET Alumni Association, Canada would be but not limited to as follows:

  1. To establish, strengthen and enhance the continued ties with the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), Dhaka, Bangladesh;
  2. To strengthen connection and fellowship among Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology BUET Alumni residing in Canada, by fostering individual growth, well-being, professional development and net-working among BUET Alumni;
  3. To promote the interests of the students and graduates of BUET by organizing lectures, seminars, symposia, workshops among others;
  4. To build commitment and involvement for enhancing, promoting and upholding the image of BUET while living in Canada;
  5. To enhance and uphold professional competence among the BUET Alumni living in Canada;
  6. To provide support to the BUET Alumni and their families in distress and to organize humanitarian activities at times of needs;
  7. To facilitate intellectual exchanges between BUET and Universities including professional institutions in Canada;
  8. To arrange social activities with a view to fostering greater social cohesion and integration among the BUET Alumni and their families living in Canada;
  9. To promote and educate the Alumni Members and families on the Canadian Values, Ethics; and their rights and obligations and privileges; and To contribute in the process of building a better Canada.”

General Members:

The following shall be General Members of BUET Alumni Association, Canada :

  1. All Alumni, that are persons who have received a degree or diploma offered by “BUET or its predecessor institutions, namely, the East Pakistan University of Engineering and Technology, and the Dacca/Ahsanullah Engineering College” (the phrase within the quotes are hereinafter referred to as “the University”) living in Canada.
  2. Current or former full-time Teachers of the University living in Canada.
  3. Current or former members of the Academic Council or the Syndicate of the University living in Canada.

Active Members:

  1. All General Members shall be eligible to become Active Members of BUET Alumni Association, Canada subject to acceptance of the terms and conditions set forth in the Constitution.
  2. Active Members of BUET Alumni Association, Canada shall be entitled to vote for electing members of the Executive Committee of BUET Alumni Association, Canada and shall be entitled to such other privileges as may be provided for in this Constitution.

Active Membership Fee

  1. Annual membership fee (year beginning on January 1 and ending on December 31) for Active Membership shall be CAD 25 (Twenty Five Canadian Dollars) only. First time members shall pay a registration fee of CAD 10 (Ten Canadian Dollars) only, as a one-time payment in addition to the yearly subscription. This registration fee shall be paid again only in case of re-registration if membership is discontinued for any reason. The amount of registration fee and membership fee may be reviewed and changed by the Executive Committee as and when necessary.
  2. Application for Active Membership of BUET Alumni Association, Canada as defined in the Section 3.1 of the Constitution, shall be submitted by the General Members by filling out the prescribed form along with registration and annual membership fees to the office of the Director, General Membership.
  3. Annual membership fee shall have to be paid by 31st December of each year; failing which a late payment fee of CAD 5 (Five Dollars) only shall have to be paid in addition to the membership fee. A member, who fails to pay his/her annual membership fee for two consecutive years, shall automatically lose his/her Active Membership of BUET Alumni Association, Canada. He/she, however, can apply for re-registration as an Active Member.

Life Members:

  1. Any Active or General Member shall be eligible to become a Life Member of BUET Alumni Association, Canada subject to the acceptance of the terms and conditions set forth in the Constitution and upon payment of a one-time subscription of an amount decided by the Executive Committee.
  2. Life Members of BUET Alumni Association, Canada shall be entitled to vote for electing members of the Executive Committee and shall be entitled to such other privileges as may be provided for in this Constitution.

Life Membership Fee

  1. The Life Membership fee shall be an one time lump sum fee of CAD $200.00 or an amount decided by the Executive Committee.
  2. Application for the Life membership of BUET Alumni Association, Canada shall be submitted by filling up the prescribed form (which will be available at the office of BUET Alumni Association, Canada and on its Website) along with the one-time life membership fee to the office of the Director, General membership.

 One applying for Life Membership shall also pay the prescribed registration fee as mentioned in Section 3.2.1 along with his/her application.
